2012 Run With Me…4 NF

The annual Run with Me…4 NF event is slated to take place June 9, 2012 in Minnedosa, MB. We provide a 5k and 10k scenic timed event. Do not fret, many walk and do not worry about time. We offer prizes, food and entertainment.

MBNF Brandon meeting

Our next meeting will be held on April 14, 2012 in Brandon, MB at Huggy’s Sports Bar located at Thunderbird Bowl at 2140 Currie Boulevard. The director’s meeting will be held from 1-2 PM with the regular meeting running from 2-4 PM. This meeting place will allow the option for parents with young children the opportunity to let their kids bowl during the meeting. (Sorry, but this will be at your own expense). We have volunteers in place to watch over and play with the younger children, there is also a large indoor play structure. Please let Tracy know who is interested in this glow/ bowl experience, as the 5 pin lanes go very fast. The cost is $3.50 per game.

We have also set aside 6 rooms at the Canad Inns on 18^th street for those that wish to stay in a hotel. We have reserved a special rate for our group; you may use this rate Friday and/or Saturday. Please book your own room by calling the front desk at (204) 727-1422 anytime and quote the group name “MBNF or 224574″ to reserve from this block of rooms.
3 – Deluxe Queen Rooms (2 queen beds in each) $119.00 plus taxes
3 – Children’s Themed Rooms (1 Queen bed and 2 bunk beds in each) $126.00 plus taxes
Please be advised that these rooms will be held until March 13^th, 2012, at which point any that have not been spoken for will be released. As well, after this time the group rates will no longer be available.

Please confirm your attendance of this meeting, the names of the kids that will bowl and those who will be staying at the hotel.

2011 Christmas Traditions

We are excited to be hosting our 6^th annual Christmas Traditions fundraiser on Sunday, November 27^th in the St. Mark’s Anglican Church hall in Minnedosa, Manitoba starting at 7:30pm. This is a heart-warming evening filled with local talent, fellowship and delicious Christmas desserts. For the past two years the donations collected at Christmas Traditions were contributed to the MRI Cinema Vision Project. Money raised at this year’s event will be donated directly to the Manitoba Neurofibromatosis Support Group.

IMAX fundraiser report

On the 23^rd of October MBNF held our first ever IMAX fundraising event. Over 100 people came out to enjoy a showing of Dolphins and Whales on the big screen. The event kicked off with Tracy Gregorash presenting a cheque on behalf of MBNF in the amount of $25, 000 to the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The money will go towards the purchase of MRI Cinemavision goggles for the MRI machine at the Children’s Hospital/Health Sciences Centre. The crowd was also shown the first draft of MBNF’s recently filmed PSA.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event. It is because of support from people like you that these events are successful. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of those living with NF!

2011 AGM Report

On Saturday, October 22nd the Manitoba Neurofibromatosis Support Group held its AGM at the Viscount Gort Hotel in Winnipeg. Our guest speaker was Lisa Martin of the Rolling River School Division to give a presentation on “Navigating through the school system with learning disabilities”. Tracy Gregorash also gave a presentation on “Learning disabilities associated with NF”.

We have met our goal of raising enough funds to purchase the MRI Goggles for the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg.

Ian and Shannon Goodall shared their personal story of their son’s life with NF.

Jeff Nykoliation, Lyndon Demers and Shannon Goodall were nominated and elected to the board of directors.

First Annual MBNF Fundraiser Golf Tournament

The 1st Annual MBNF Golf tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 27th 2011 at the Shilo Golf and Country Club. Tee off is at 12 noon.

Fees are $75 per golfer which includes green fees, cart rental and dinner. A portion of this fee is eligible for an income tax receipt. If you wish just to come to dinner tickets are $25. Dinner will be your choice of steak or chicken, along with potato, salad, dessert and tea or coffee.

There will be prizes for longest drive and closest to pin as well as a ticket draw auction.

Beverage cart will be available as well as a cash bar at dinner.

Proceeds of the tournament go toward sending the children in our group to the Children’s Tumor Foundation summer camp in Utah.

2011 “Trash the Dress” Fundraiser

Mark September 18th on your calendar!

This is your opportunity to be a model for a day and reuse that wedding dress. (Yes, we will probably need to alter it or find a different similar dress, but it is SO worth it!)
You will be pampered with hair and make -up assistance before the photo shoot, which will be held out on a beach on the outskirts of Winnipeg.
The cost is $175 and 100% of this goes directly to our support group!
You will receive a disc of all the photos taken.
